With three years of experience as an editor and publisher at a small, independent press, I work with manuscripts to prepare them for publication, from content and copy editing to book design.

MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATION

You have a completed manuscript (essay, short story, collection, novel, memoir), and you need a comprehensive critique that includes line-editing, marginal notes, and copy-editing throughout--but most importantly at this stage, a detailed critique with overall comments and specific suggestions for revision. I do that for you, helping you tell your story in the most successful and effective way to meet your goals for the manuscript. I respond as both a reader and an editor (and a writer myself) so that you know what works and doesn't work from both essential standpoints.

Once I have completed my critique of the manuscript, I will sit down with you face-to-face (or via Skype) for a one hour conversation about your work and how you will achieve your goals.

Your investment: $3 per text page

COPY EDITING

You know the content of your manuscript (essay, short story, collection, novel, memoir) is ready for submission, but you need thorough copy editing as the final step. I do that for you, checking for grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, syntax, formatting, and style.

Your investment: $2.25 per text page

BOOK DESIGN

Your manuscript is complete, and you're ready for it to come together in print or e-book. I do that for you, including cover and interior design and typesetting.

Your investment: $300 base + $3 per text page (though more if your manuscript involves images and other complex elements)

MENTORSHIP

You want someone to read your manuscript, yes, and advise you on revising your work in preparation for publication. But perhaps you also want a teacher, a coach, who does more than hands back your manuscript with a critique. I will be your personal teacher, tailoring readings to help you grow as a writer even beyond your one manuscript. We will revise together, read and discuss published writing together, and make a plan for the future of the manuscript together.

Your investment: $1500 for 15 hours over one month
